We're supporting World COPD Day

Thursday 15 November is World COPD Day. We've teamed up with the COPD and oxygen team from Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, ABL Health and Age UK to support people living with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and their carers.

There are over 8,000* people living with COPD in Wirral, and the symptoms can include breathlessness, wheezing and a chronic cough. People living with COPD find it difficult to breathe and everyday tasks are often a real challenge, knowing all you can about the condition, symptoms, medications and how to cope with flare-ups can make day-to-day life easier.

If you have been diagnosed with COPD, know or care for someone with the long term condition come along to Wirral’s COPD awareness raising event on Thursday 15 November, 10.00am to 4.00pm at St. Catherine’s Health Centre, Birkenhead.

A team of specialists will be on hand throughout the day offering support and advice around living with COPD as well as letting you know what local support services are available in Wirral. A team of stop smoking advisors will also be at the event offering support to quit smoking.

Diane Birss, Senior Community Matron, Wirral Community NHS Foundation Trust said; “We’re very proud to be supporting World COPD Day. Working with our partners we want to support as many people as possible living with this long term condition. Along with education and medications there are various things people can do to help manage COPD and our team of specialist health professionals will be at the event offering support, advice and information to people living with the condition, along with their families and carers.”
