About the day 

The programme covers areas of interest including:

  • Influenza through the ages - The evolution of the flu virus, pandemics and the role of infection prevention and control
  • Demystifying STIs and HIV - Looking at local issues and dispelling the myths around STIs including HIV
  • MRSA - hear from a patient with personal experience of a loved one with MRSA and the role MRSA UK are playing to ensure the safety of patients
  • Carbapenemase Producing Enterobacteriacea (CPE) – Has it come to 'survival of the fittest..?' CPE has become an emerging threat to patients globally, a talk looking at the background and prevalence of CPE locally
  • PVL-SA - Preventing harm from Panton-Valentine Leukocidin (PVL), a toxin produced by some strains of staphylococcus aureus (SA) - a common type of bacteria found on the skin. 
  • Multi resistant organisms a global and local view of the extent of multidrug resistant organisms and what can be done to reduce the spread and development of resistance.

There will also be numerous displays with new and innovative products for use in health and social care settings from a wide variety of companies.
