Health Matters: Get up and about with our wellbeing challenge

Summer is here! It's a great time to get up and about, enjoy the sunshine and the light nights with family and friends and get more active.

We've got lots of ways for you and your family to get more active and live healthier this summer. Whether you're looking for ways to eat healthier, get more active, lose weight, quit smoking or relax and unwind our team is here to support you and your family.

Get involved in our wellbeing challenge and see how active you and your family can be this summer.

6 ways to help you and your family get up and about this summer. Are you ready for the challenge?

  • Get involved in one of our many FREE weekly activities including relaxation sessions, gentle circuit training, Tai Chi or the couch to 5k*. Our sessions are suitable for all fitness levels and are a great way to meet new friends. Exercise can reduce risk of major illnesses, such as heart disease, stroke and diabetes (see our notice board for activity details)
  • Walking is a fun and easy way to get active. Try to find different walks and alternate between them during the week. Did you know a person weighing 70kg (about 11 stone) can burn about 440 calories by walking 10,000 steps briskly?
  • Get running with one of our couch to 5k courses. The course is designed to get you off the couch and running 5K. It's a great way to boost your mood, meet new friends and get more active
  • Get the kids involved – they are more likely to take part in activities if they have helped to organise them. Let them help organise a family picnic in the park with lots of healthy snacks – healthy food gives you energy and helps you feel good
  • Gardening is a great way to spend time as a family outdoors. Why not try growing your own vegetables? It's fun and a great way to help you and your family get 5 a day
  • Make the most off the outdoors. Dust the cobwebs of your bike and go for a family bike ride or take a ball to the beach or park for a kick-about with the kids
