Event to support those affected by cancer

An event aimed to highlight the support available in Wirral for people affected by cancer is taking place at Arrowe Park Hospital on Friday 15th July.

The cancer health and wellbeing event has been organised by Wirral University Teaching Hospital in partnership with a host of other organisations such as Macmillan, Wirral Community NHS Foundation Trust and Wirral Clinical Commissioning Group. It is the first full event of its kind hosted by the Trust for local people living with and beyond cancer. As well as featuring short talks from health care professionals it will include a range of stalls promoting the services and support available in Wirral ranging from fitness advice and holistic therapies to welfare guidance and support for carers.

Organiser of the event, Anne Torkington (pictured), from the Macmillan Information Centre at Arrowe Park Hospital explained:

"People often don't realise how much help is available locally for those affected by cancer so this is a great way of highlighting the support we have in Wirral and helping people to access what they need. Sometimes seeking the right information can feel daunting but by combining information sessions with informal 'market' stalls that people can browse at their own pace we hope to make it easier and more comfortable.
"Whether you are living with cancer, currently recovering or caring for someone with the condition, this event will bring together a wealth of useful resources in one place along with access to expert advice from cancer specialist nurses, Macmillan professionals, dietitians and organisations such as Age UK Wirral."

The free event will take place from 1pm until 4pm on Friday 15th July in the Education Centre, which is next to the Fracture Clinic, at Arrowe Park Hospital. Free light refreshments will be available and people are welcome to bring a friend, relative or carer.
