Sexual Health Wirral is supporting national HIV Testing Week, a nationwide campaign to encourage testing and help reduce transmission rates of HIV. You may have seen the recent Coronation Street storyline where Seb, a young, straight male, has just found out he has become infected with HIV after having sex with somebody who was carrying the virus. This just shows that although some people are deemed higher risk - men who have sex with men, people from different ethnic backgrounds, people who share needles - it’s really important everyone gets tested to be sure.

The team are encouraging anyone who hasn’t had an HIV test to come along to one of their clinics and have a test. Even if you’ve had a test, but have changed your sexual partner it’s important to have another test.

Testing for HIV has never been easier. It’s confidential and free from our Sexual Health Wirral Service and anyone accessing their everyday clinics can ask for an HIV test.

During national HIV Testing Week the team are running extra drop-in clinics at St Catherine’s Health Centre and Victoria Central Health Centre offering HIV blood testing:

  • Monday 20 November, 8.00am - 12noon, St Catherine’s Health Centre, Derby Road, Birkenhead, CH42 0LQ
  • Tuesday 21 November,  8.00am - 12noon, Victoria Central Health Centre
  • Wednesday 22 November, 4.00pm - 7.00pm, St Catherine’s Health Centre, St Catherine’s Health Centre, Derby Road, Birkenhead, CH42 0LQ
  • Thursday 23 November, 10.00am - 2.00pm, St Catherine’s Health Centre, St Catherine’s Health Centre, Derby Road, Birkenhead, CH42 0LQ

Testing regularly is important to knowing your HIV status. People should not be afraid of having an HIV test.

Testing for HIV is quick, simple and confidential.

Take the test!
