Sexual Health Wirral

Your sexual health services are delivered by Sexual Health Wirral - a joint initiative by local NHS organisations (Wirral Community NHS Trust and Wirral University Teaching Hospital) and Brook. The joint initiative ensures that there is a simple, up to date source of support, information and service provision across Wirral.


The service operates seven days a week, across five locations and the dedicated website provides information, support and downloadable clinic timetables.

Our Sexual Health Service offers sexual health screening (tests), treatment, advice and contraception to men and women of all ages as well as support for those who are having problems with their sexual health. Our free, confidential, friendly and supportive service can be accessed by drop-in or appointment at our clinics, which offer daytime and evening sessions at various venues across Wirral. Our staff have the expertise to assess problems, to examine and conduct tests and to treat and help people appropriately.

Services available at our clinics include: 


  • Emergency contraception (if you have had unprotected sex in the last 72 hours)
  • A range of contraception choices and treatments to suit your needs including free condoms
  • Specialist contraception service for menopausal women and individuals with complex needs



  • Pregnancy testing and fertility advice
  • Pregnancy advice – pre-pregnancy and pregnancy decision counselling
  • Referral for termination


STIs and HIV

  • Information, testing and treatment for all STIs (Sexually Transmitted Infections)
  • Chlamydia, gnorrhoea and syphilis screening  and treatment
  • HIV Screening
  • Confidential support, advice and treatment if your STI tests are positive


Women’s Health

  • Menstrual problems and concerns
  • Cervical smears
  • Recurring vaginal thrush and discharge



  • Genital skin problems
  • Men’s sexual health problems and concerns
  • PEPSE/PEP - Post Exposure Prophylaxis following sexual exposure or following needle stick injury


Psychosexual Health


  • Psychosexual counselling and specialist services
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Vaginal spasms

How to access our service:


Our FREE, confidential services can be accessed by drop-in or appointment. Clinics now offer daytime, evening and weekend sessions at 7 convenient community locations across Wirral.


Just drop in for:

Contraception and emergency contraception, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, pregnancy testing and advice.


You need an appointment for:

Some long term contraception services such as coil fitting or replacement (IUD / IUS) and removal and replacement of implants.


You need to be referred by your GP for:

Consultant led clinics for psychosexual services and counselling.
