SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands campaign - 5 May 2015

Wirral Community NHS Trust will be supporting the World Health Organisation's annual SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands awareness campaign to highlight the importance of hand hygiene in healthcare.

Our Infection Prevention and Control team will be at St Catherine's Health Centre in Birkenhead on Tuesday 5 May from 10.00am – 12:30pm sharing lots of advice and tips on good hand hygiene. Open to the public and other health professionals you can:

  • find out about how germs are spread, where germs hide
  • test your hand washing technique
  • learn more about why, when and how you should wash your hands
  • show support for the campaign
  • ...and even pick up some freebies

Sandra Christie, Director of Nursing & Performance and Infection Prevention & Control advises: "Keeping hands clean is one of the most important ways to prevent the spread of infection and illness".

Keeping hands clean prevents illness at home, at school, and at work. Hand hygiene practices are key prevention measures in healthcare settings, day care facilities, schools and public institutions, and for the safety of food. Good hand hygiene can prevent infections being passed from person to person including the spread of things like colds and the flu".
