Olympic Torch Relay

Olympic Torch Relay

On Friday 1 June Wirral will welcome the Olympic flame as it enters Wallasey via the Kingsway tunnel at 5.45pm.

To mark the occasion Wirral Community NHS Trust’s very own Public Health Team will be offering advice and support on a range of lifestyle services at an organised free sports and fitness event in Birkenhead Park from 4.00pm to 6.30pm.

The event is a chance for the Trust and other partners, including Wirral Council, to promote the benefits of kick starting and maintaining a healthy lifestyle as well as getting to celebrate a momentous occasion for Birkenhead.

Staff will be on hand across the park offering advice and support on stopping smoking, healthy weight, physical activity and emotional wellbeing. They will also be offering free blood pressure testing and carbon monoxide tests.

The flame will be taken on its journey by specially nominated torchbearers along Duke Street, Park Road North, Park Road West and Ashville Road before it enters Birkenhead Park.  It will then be carried through Birkenhead Town Centre, through Hamilton Square before being taken across the River Mersey from Woodside by ferry.

Please be aware that the Olympic flame will be entering the Wirral at rush hour and there will be some traffic restrictions including the temporary closure of Ashville Road from 7am – 7pm and the closure of Ferry Approach Road, Woodside at its junction with Chester Street from 5pm to 7pm.
