Feeling below par?...health advice for visitors to this year's Open Championship

When the Open Championship came to Royal Liverpool, Hoylake back in 2006 there was a significant increase in the number of people attending Accident & Emergency at the hospital and our local Walk-in Centres.

With an estimated 230,000 spectators enjoying the event, we want visitors to the Wirral who may feel unwell or have a minor injury to know where to get treatment.

Wirral Community NHS Trust operates three Walk-in Centres in Wirral: Victoria Central - Wallasey, All Day Health Centre - located next door to the Emergency Department at Arrowe Park and Eastham Clinic. Open 365 days a year, you can simply walk in and be seen by an experienced health professional within four hours, no appointment is needed.

Walk-in Centres offer a convenient alternative to A&E for many minor injuries and illnesses and help ensure that A&E is available for those in need of critical care. Our minor injuries unit at Victoria Central, also has x-ray facilities.

We plan many months in advance when a high profile event such as The Open arrives on our doorstep as this tournament really does attract a large number of extra visitors to Wirral. For the vast majority of visitors this will be a safe and enjoyable experience.

Dr Evan Moore is Medical Director at Wirral University Teaching Hospital. He said:
"If you do need medical help, don't think that A&E is your only option. Please keep our Emergency Department at Arrowe Park Hospital for serious accidents or if your illness/injury is life threatening or critical."

So, if you're feeling rough or below par this summer, remember to 'Choose Well'. Full details of the three local Walk-in Centres and advice on how to self care can be found on our website www.wirralct.nhs.uk

All other Wirral Community NHS Trust services are operating as normal in the area. Please visit our website for details or follow us on Twitter @wirralct for any updates to services.
