Celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness Month with your local NHS Trust!

Celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness Month with your local NHS Trust!

Wirral Community NHS Trust is hosting a month of special events to celebrate Breastfeeding Awareness Month. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and encourage more mums to breastfeed.

Events are taking place throughout June, including a number of 'Big Feeds', a Teddy Bears' Picnic and a Breastfeeding Roadshow, culminating in a hospital activity week.

The 'Big Feeds' are taking place at a number of venues across Wirral to encourage local mums to come and breastfeed. There will be a range of activities for mums and babies to get involved in, as well as information and advice.

There will also be a 'Teddy Bears' Picnic' in Birkenhead Park, where all the family can bring along their teddies and picnic treats, and enjoy a fun-filled morning together.

The celebrations will then move onto a Breastfeeding Roadshow at Marine Point, New Brighton. This year's theme is 'Why breastfeeding, Why me?', which aims to remind families about the benefits of breastfeeding and why it's good for them and their baby. There will also be plenty of games, arts, craft activities and music to enjoy, with friendly support for expectant new mums.

The 'Milky Way Toddle' event will be a child-friendly 3k walk for parents, their little ones, carers and grandparents from Seacombe Ferry to Vale Park, New Brighton. It will be an ideal opportunity to meet other families in the community and mix together during a bring-your-own picnic at the finish line.

The month of celebration then culminates in a week of special activities at the Women and Children's Unit of Arrowe Park Hospital.

Clare Whitehead, Infant Feeding Lead, said: 'These events are unique opportunities to get involved and ask any questions in a friendly and welcoming setting.'
