Lifestyle and Weight Management Service

 

The Lifestyle and Weight Management Service provides various programmes to help children and adults to lose weight and make lasting changes towards healthier lifestyles.

 

We offer several programmes around healthy eating and cooking, food labelling, behaviour change, and finding physical activities to suit each individual.

Measure up For adults with a BMI of 25 – 34.9

Weigh2Grow

Weigh2Grow is for families and parents or carers of children aged 4-15 years (or up to 25 years for people with learning difficulties) with a BMI over the 91st centile.

 

You can calculate your child’s centile by visiting the NHS Choices website

 

Our qualified and experienced Lifestyle Advisors are trained in physical activity, nutrition, behaviour change, counseling, sports injuries, healthy cookery and lifestyle coaching. We also work closely with the Nutrition and Dietetics Service. 

 

What we offer…

 

A 12 month programme consisting of 10 weekly sessions, followed by monthly follow ups, including:

 

  • physical activity sessions and how to be more active
  • the importance of regular eating and portion control
  • understanding food labelling
  • healthy eating, healthy cooking and a free recipe book

 

It includes group and one-to-one sessions, parent-only sessions, and different groups for younger and older children (4-7’s and 8-15’s)

 

The programme is available at many different venues across Wirral, including Tranmere Rovers and Birkenhead YMCA.

Weigh2Change is a Lifestyle and Weight Management programme for adults (age 16 plus) with a BMI 35 or over.

 

You can calculate your BMI by visiting the NHS Choices website.

 

Our qualified and experienced Lifestyle Advisors are trained in physical activity, nutrition, behaviour change, counseling, sports injuries, healthy cookery and lifestyle coaching. We also work closely with Wirral Community NHS Trust dieticians.

 

The 12 month programme consists of 12 weekly sessions, followed by regular follow ups to provide on-going support.

 

The 12 week programme focuses on supporting people to make small, realistic changes that can lead to a long-term healthier lifestyle. Topics covered include:

 

  • what is a healthy balanced diet?
  • regular eating and portion guidelines
  • help to find the right physical activity for you (including free exercise sessions and leisure passes)
  • behaviour change: how you think about food and coping with cravings
  • understanding food labeling
  • fats, cholesterol and carbohydrates
  • menu planning and meal ideas.  

 

The sessions are mainly run in groups, but some one-to-one sessions are available (certain criteria must be met).

  • Empowering people to make changes – tailored to individual needs
